HONOLULU — More than 240 Hawaii State Federal Credit Union (Hawaii State FCU) employees contributed a combined 732 hours of community service to six nonprofit organizations on Oahu and Maui on Monday, Oct. 12, as part of HSFCU Cares Day. Hawaii State FCU employees dedicated the federal holiday to a companywide day of service, closing all branches, its call center and headquarters so employees could volunteer with participating nonprofits.
“HSFCU Cares Day has become a special tradition for our employees and an important part of how we live our commitment to the community,” said Ashley Noji, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Hawaii State FCU. “It’s an opportunity for our entire team to come together and give our time and energy to organizations doing important work throughout Hawaii. We’re grateful to our nonprofit partners for welcoming us and giving our employees a chance to contribute in a meaningful way.”
Employees participated in a variety of volunteer projects focused on essential needs and kupuna support, including meal deliveries, facility improvements and environmental restoration.
Participating nonprofit organizations and volunteer activities included:
- Family Promise of Hawaii – Holiday card making and office cleanup at its Kukui location, along with property cleanup and organization of family kits at its Moiliili Center.
- Hale Kau Kau – Deep cleaning and organizing kitchen, office and storage areas, assisting with food preparation, and cleaning delivery vehicles used to serve individuals who are hungry or homebound on Maui.
- Hawaii Meals on Wheels – Meal deliveries to kupuna and homebound individuals along routes across Oahu.
- Lanakila Pacific – Arts and crafts with program participants at its Bachelot and Wahiawa locations, along with meal preparation and packing at Bachelot.
- Papahana Kuaola – Stream restoration, native planting and loi kalo maintenance.
- The Pantry by Feeding Hawaii Together – Assistance with pantry operations, administrative tasks, landscaping, invasive plant removal and waste disposal.
HSFCU Cares Day was launched in 2024 as a way to transform a traditional bank holiday into a day dedicated to community service. Since its inception, Hawaii State FCU employees have contributed more than 2,300 volunteer hours through the annual initiative. The program builds on the credit union’s broader commitment to giving back to the communities where its employees and members live and work.
