HONOLULU — Hawaii State Federal Credit Union (Hawaii State FCU) recently presented a combined total of $37,500 to two local nonprofits— Family Promise of Hawaii and Hawaii HomeOwnership Center—to support affordable housing access and services for families experiencing homelessness. The donations were made possible through Hawaii State FCU and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines) Member Impact Fund, a matching grant program that amplifies the impact of financial institutions working to strengthen their communities.
“Stable housing creates the foundation for lasting financial wellness and opportunity,” said Andrew Rosen, president and CEO of Hawaii State FCU. “We’re honored to support the vital work of Family Promise of Hawaii and Hawaii HomeOwnership Center, and immensely grateful for the generous matching grant from FHLB Des Moines. Their partnership allows us to extend our reach and deepen our impact in the communities we serve.”
Family Promise of Hawaii was awarded a total of $25,000, made possible by a $10,000 donation from Hawaii State FCU and a $15,000 matching grant from FHLB Des Moines. The funding will provide critical housing services and case management for families with children experiencing homelessness on Oahu and Maui. Family Promise of Hawaii offers safe interim shelter and support systems that help families transition to long-term stability and independence.
Hawaii HomeOwnership Center received a total of $12,500 in funding, which included a $5,000 donation from Hawaii State FCU and a $7,500 matching grant from FHLB Des Moines. The funds will help support first-time homebuyers through down payment and closing cost assistance, as well as educational programs, emergency home repairs, and property tax support. These services empower local families to achieve sustainable homeownership in one of the nation’s most challenging housing markets.
For the third consecutive year, Hawaii State FCU has partnered with the FHLB Des Moines Member Impact Fund to strengthen local nonprofits focused on basic needs and housing. The matching grant program provides up to $3 for every $1 donated by a participating financial institution, based on eligible funding requests. This year, the program matched $1.50 for every $1 donated by Hawaii State FCU.
